Outer Wilds (2019)

Recap: Explore the various bodies of a handcrafted solar system in your timberpunk-esq spaceship and solve enviromental puzzles by gaining knowledge of te world. On your travels you may uncover the nature of your homesystem, the mysteries of its previous inhabitants and maybe even learn somthing about the cosmos itself.

Review: In generall it’s very difficult for me to pick a single favorite item from a category like movies or colors. But in the case of Outer Wilds I can say with certainty that it is (and probably will be for a long time) not only my favorite video game, but also the most life altering experience a piece of media has ever provided me with. With that being said, I have dedicated Outer Wilds a (spoiler-free) shrine, where I talk a bit more in depth about this masterpiece.

Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye (2022)

Recap: Explore a new strange object in your solar system and the history of its spooky inhabitants.

Review: If you liked the base game it is totally worth playing this dlc, even if you are not a fan of horror (like me). It features a set of interesting new mechanics, expands on the story in a nove way and features one of the most heartbreaking moments of the series.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth (2014)

Recap: In an attempt to flee from your murderous, dogmatic mother you flee into the floors of your monster-filled basement. In order to defend yourself from the figures that bare an uncanny resemblence to you, shoot them down with your tears whilst collecting upgrades from bosses.

Review: This game is a true classic of the rogue-like genre, featuring an incredible depth and replay value. Discovering game breaking item synergies, aswell as manipulating the various game-mechnics keeps the core gameplay loop fresh and engaging. The overwhelming amount of unlockable items, characters, floors and bosses in combination with the boss-checklist for each character make progression palpable, fun and addictive as fuck.

Team Fortress 2 (2007)

Recap: Cosmetic hat simulator disguised as a casual class-based team shooter.

Review: Tf2 was my first multiplayer shooter and I could not have chosen any better. The nine classes offer a wide range of gameplay styles that is expanded by the plethora of non-stock weapons available. Although the trading community had already peaked when I began my trading career, it was still a blast trying to trade yourself up your way to an unusual hat. The highlight of the game has to be the colourfull cast of whakos that are the nine playable mercs, as well as the surrounding NPCs of the Mann Co. cosmos explored in the Meet the Team video-series and the different comics that have been released over the years.

Risk of Rain 2 (2020)

Recap: Help the shipwrecked survivors of a interstellar freighter escape the strange world they find themselves in by collecting cargo and battling the creations of an otherwordly Titan.

Review: Dopamine inducing gameplay combined with one of the hottest soundtracks known to humanity (thank you Chris Christodoulos)

Dredge (2023)

Recap: Sift through the waters of a mysterious archipelago whilst avoiding the aberrations that spawn at night. Find a set of lost eldritch artifacts and find out, why some things should stay forgotten.

Review: I dont know how the devs managed to create a cosmic horror fishing game, but I love it. Fun gameplay cycle combined with a soundtrack that summons you inner sea dog. Shoutout to the illustrators of cursed version of each fish, that shit looks equal parts beautiful/eerie.
